LEXINGTON — The Lexington Community Foundation, a longtime champion of community development, has announced a $1,000,000 pledge towards an expansion project for the Orthman Community YMCA, a vital community hub that has served families for just over a decade in the Lexington area.
This significant commitment will support a comprehensive expansion project to expand access to health and wellness facilities, modernize program spaces, and enhance services for children, families, and seniors. The expansion project is projected to begin in the fall of 2026 and will benefit thousands of individuals who rely on the YMCA for affordable, inclusive programs.
“The YMCA plays a critical role in strengthening the fabric of our community,” said Mike Maloley, President of the Lexington Community Foundation. “We are proud to invest in a space that promotes physical well-being, social connection, and equitable opportunities for all.”
The Orthman Community YMCA has served Lexington, Nebraska, and 13 surrounding communities for over a decade, establishing itself as a trusted and essential hub for health, youth development, wellness, and community engagement. This expansion project will address the
urgent need for expanded youth engagement, additional fitness space, and enhanced recreational offerings to ensure the YMCA continues to serve as a safe, welcoming, and fully equipped facility for all members.
“This incredible gift from the Lexington Community Foundation accelerates our vision to create a Y that reflects the evolving needs of our community,” said Riley Gruntorad, YMCA of the Prairie CEO. “We’re deeply grateful for this partnership and excited for the future of our YMCA.”
The $1 million pledge serves as a lead gift in the Y’s ongoing capital campaign, with additional fundraising efforts continuing throughout the year. Community members and businesses interested in supporting the project are encouraged to contact Riley Gruntorad at the YMCA at
