HASTINGS — Contractor NLC Construction of York will begin work during the week of July 14 on four concrete projects in the community of Hastings.
NLC Construction will remove asphalt curb & gutter on Chicago Avenue between E and F streets in preparation for curb & gutter and resurfacing work.
Crews will follow up with new concrete curbs and gutters, replacing any driveways or sidewalks that were removed.
Work of removing the asphalt curb will take place on one side at a time, so limited parking will be available on the opposite side. The work of building the new concrete curb & gutter should only take one day, so the contractor will need access to both sides of the street to build the new concrete curb and gutter.
Follow up work on driveways will be coordinated with property owners with access prohibited for 3 to 7 days to allow for the concrete to gain the required strength.
This portion of Chicago Avenue is scheduled for asphalt resurfacing in the proposed 2025-2026 fiscal year budget.
Concurrent to the work on Chicago Avenue, NLC Construction will work on Laird Avenue between Ninth and 11th streets. Laird Ave. will be closed for the work to be completed. Please use side streets for parking.
This portion of Laird Avenue will receive concrete replacement.
A portion of the intersection of 10th Street and Laird Avenue will be used in place, but the remainder of Laird Avenue between Ninth and 11th Streets will be completely removed and replaced with new concrete.
Follow up work on driveways will be coordinated with property owners with access prohibited for 3 to 7 days to allow for the concrete to gain the required strength.
The work on Laird Avenue will be completed before Aug. 14 and the start of the Hastings Public Schools school year.
Crews will then move to Lincoln Avenue, for concrete work from South Street to the BNSF Railway. Lincoln Avenue will remain open, but driveways will have to be closed to complete the work.
This portion of Lincoln Avenue is scheduled for asphalt resurfacing in the proposed fiscal year 2025-2026 budget.
Crews will then move to D Street between Woodland and Emerson avenues for concrete patching work.
If residents in the construction areas have sprinkler systems, the City of Hastings asks that sprinklers are marked so the contractor can take care not to tear them out. When the project is again backfilled, the City of Hastings would like to have residents turn sprinklers on to ensure sprinklers are working as they were before construction.
The City of Hastings Engineering Department has notified properties along the Chicago Avenue, Laird Avenue and Lincoln Avenue of the planned work. Because the work on D Street will follow work at the other locations, properties there have not yet been notified.
The progression of work is dependent on weather and contractor availability.
The work is funded by the half-cent sales tax.
