HAMILTON — A Flood Advisory will be in place Wednesday morning for several counties east of the Tri-Cities after heavy rainfall occurred from overnight thunderstorms.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the advisory was issued for parts of York, Clay, Fillmore and Hamilton counties until 9:30 a.m.
NWS Hastings noted that mainly minor flooding had been caused by earlier excessive rainfall is expected in low-lying and poor drainage areas, also along rural county roads and small creeks.
As of 5:20 a.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rainfall, around 2-4 inches, had fallen from earlier thunderstorms, however, no additional rainfall is expected this morning.
Areas that could be impacted includes West Fork Big Blue River, Indian Creek, Beaver Creek, North Fork Johnson Creek and School Creek. Communities include Henderson, Exeter, Fairmont, McCool Junction, Giltner, Grafton, Stockham and Lushton.
“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” per NWS Hastings.
