ELM CREEK — The date for a special election was set for a proposed one-half percent sales tax increase by the Village of Elm Creek Board of Trustees at their July 17th meeting.
The Board of Trustees of the Village of Elm Creek, Nebraska hereby proposes to increase the Village of Elm Creek sales and use tax rate by an additional one-half of one percent (½%) from one percent (1%) to one and one-half percent (1½%).
The proposal to increase the Village of Elm Creek sales and use tax rate by an additional one-half of one percent (½%) from one percent (1%) to one and one-half percent (1½%) shall be submitted to a vote of qualified electors of the Village of Elm Creek at a special election to be held on September 9, 2025. It was motioned to set the special election date for Tuesday, Sept. 9, which was approved by a 5 – 0 vote.
Tanner Tool, Village of Elm Creek Board Chairman said, “this small increase in sales tax will help us with rising costs of repairs and overall street maintenance. Since 2020, our street costs have almost doubled in price. This sales tax increase will help the village do more street repairs without raising property taxes.”
This election will be an election by mail. Each active registered voter residing within the Village of Elm Creek will receive a ballot by mail at his/her address as it appears on the voter registration register; and therefore no polling places will be open for voting. Ballots will be mailed by the Election Commissioner of Buffalo County on Monday, August 18, 2025.
Registered voters wishing to vote in the Special Election who will be absent from their residence between August 18, 2025 and September 9, 2025 may contact the Buffalo County Election Commissioner’s Office. All ballots must be in the possession of the Buffalo County Election Commissioner no later than 5 p.m. on Election Day, September 9, 2025.
The Village of Elm Creek residents will see two questions on their ballots. The sales tax question for the village as well as Buffalo County’s question about the proposed law enforcement center.
