KEARNEY — A common sight this time of the year is a low-flying, brightly colored aircraft “crop dusting” over the fields.

The technical term is aerial application and involves spraying crops with protective products from an agricultural aircraft, although unmanned drones are seeing more use.

The aircraft pictured here are different models of the Air Tractor series, which features a low-wing, taildragger configuration, it carries a chemical hopper between the engine firewall and the cockpit.

It can fly up to 198 mph, with a cruise speed of 150 mph, the stall speed is as low as 87 mph.

The pictures were taken in Buffalo County.
