HASTINGS — A Heat Advisory has been issued for all of central Nebraska on Friday, Aug. 15 and parts of the region and eastern Nebraska on Saturday, Aug. 16
While the area won’t hit advisory status today on Thursday, Aug. 14, temperatures will still hit the low 90s across much of the area.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the Heat Advisory for both days will be in effect from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Friday, heat index values will reach up to 100-110 degrees, with the highest values looking to be east of Highway 281. Hot temperatures and high humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids if you spend any time outdoors.
On Saturday, the Heat Advisory shifts, impacting the Highway 281 corridor and most of eastern Nebraska including Lincoln and Omaha.
The heat index will be as high as 107 degrees and low temperatures overnight will only drop down to the mid-70s, providing some limited relief from the heat. NWS Hastings notes that multiple days of high heat in a row can also contribute to heat-related illnesses.
NWS Hastings encourages people to, “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.”
