HASTINGS — The Hastings Museum is excited to announce the opening of its latest exhibit, A Century of Sound, which celebrates 100 years of the Hastings Symphony Orchestra.

The Hastings Symphony Orchestra is Nebraska’s longest-running symphony orchestra.

The exhibit, which opens with a private event on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m., invites Hastings Museum Members and Hastings Symphony Orchestra Season Pass holders to explore the history and impact of this beloved institution on the local community.

The private Exhibit Opening will feature small bites, a cash bar, and a live performance by the Hastings Symphony String Quartet. The evening will also honor special guests Roger and Karen Doerr, longtime supporters of the symphony.

“We’ve had the privilege of delving deep into the Hastings Symphony Orchestra’s rich history for this exhibit, and it’s been incredibly special to see the lasting impact music has had on this community,” said Curtis Gosser, Curator of Exhibits at the Hastings Museum. “From its early days to today, the orchestra has been more than just music, it’s been a unifying force, bringing people together in Hastings and the surrounding communities, and enriching lives through music.”

The exhibit explores the history of the Hastings Symphony Orchestra’s conductors, musicians, and performances over the past century, showcasing the people who have brought music to life and the moments that have defined the orchestra’s legacy. Highlights include historical photographs, personal stories, and a look at the orchestra’s evolution through the decades.

A Century of Sound will be open to the public on Sept. 5, and will be on display until Feb. 1 offering an in-depth look at the melodies that have shaped the community for generations.
