KEARNEY — This morning, Sept. 11, 2025, at approximately 7 a.m., Kearney Police Department (KPD) officers were dispatched to a serious medical emergency call in the northeast part of Kearney.
While responding to the medical emergency, a KPD patrol vehicle was involved in an accident with a Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) marked patrol vehicle at the intersection of North Railroad Street and K Avenue. Both vehicles were going east on North Railroad Street.
Following impact, the KPD vehicle struck a curb and rolled before coming to rest on its driver side. The KPD officer was trapped inside and required extrication with the assistance of Kearney Police Department officers, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) personnel,
and CHI Good Samaritan Emergency Medical Services.
The officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where he was treated and released. The BCSO deputy involved was not injured.
The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting the accident investigation.
We are grateful the KPD officer did not sustain serious injuries, the BCSO deputy was not injured and for the quick and professional response of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, CHI Good Samaritan Emergency personnel, and the KPD and BCSO officers who worked together to provide emergency medical care at the scene.
We also thank the Nebraska State Patrol for their assistance in completing this accident investigation as well to the many bystanders that quickly rendered aid following the accident.
