LEXINGTON — At approximately 7:45 a.m., this morning, Lexington Police Officers were dispatched to an injury accident located on west 8th Street near Erie Street in Lexington.
Upon arrival, Officers observed a silver minivan at rest on its top and a white dually pickup with severe rear end damage. Officers were able to determine the dually pickup had been parked facing an east bound direction when the east bound minivan struck the pickup on the rear driver’s side. The minivan then drove up onto the dually rear wheels rolling the mini-van one time onto its top.
The minivan was occupied by a 14-year-old male driver and an 11-year-old male passenger. Both occupants suffered head injuries and were transported to the Lexington Regional Hospital. The 11-year-old passenger was later flown to CHI-Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for additional medical treatment.
It is believed limited viewing ability due to sunlight, and an inexperienced driver were contributing factors to the accident. This is considered an active investigation and will be conducted by the Lexington Police Department.
The Lexington Police Department was assisted on scene by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Lexington Fire and Rescue, the Nebraska State Patrol, Priority Medical and Randy and Brian’s Towing.
