GRAND ISLAND – Bond was set at $3 million Oct. 16 for Justin Jelinek, 43, of 921 E. Oklahoma Ave.

Jelinek’s arraignment was in Hall County Court with Judge Alfred Corey presiding.

Formal charges were filed against Jelinek.

He is charged with felony attempted first-degree murder, two felony counts of using a deadly weapon to commit a felony, felony attempted first-degree assault on a peace officer, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and misdemeanor obstructing a peace officer.

Jelinek’s preliminary hearing was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3.

Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested Jelinek Oct. 15 after he barricaded himself in his house while a State Patrol Technical Crime Unit was attempting to serve a warrant at 921 E. Oklahoma concerning a child pornography case, with Jelinek firing at least one shot toward law enforcement officers.

According to a warrantless arrest affidavit in the case, State Patrol troopers in the Technical Crimes Unit conducted a knock and announce warrant at the residence. Verbal dialogue occurred with Jelinek. The front door was breached. Investigators confronted Jelinek, who was holding a short shotgun.

Jelinek then placed the gun on the ground and retreated to a back bedroom and fired shots at investigators who were standing at the front door. Investigators retreated and started dialogue with Jelinek. He exited the house after approximately 10 minutes. Troopers found 5,000 to 10,000 rounds of ammunition, 12 long guns, and 13 handguns in the house, and those items were seized.

No one was injured in the incident.
