October sunrise in central Nebraska, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)

KEARNEY — Fall seems to have finally descended upon central Nebraska, temperatures will be seasonal in the 60s with a chance for frost on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

It will be a windy start to the week with gusts reaching up to 45 mph today. Given the dry airmass in the area, near critical fire weather concerns are anticipated across the region during the afternoon, per the National Weather Service – Hastings.

Tuesday will not be as windy as Monday, but gusts will still reach 30 to 35 mph, near critical fire weather concerns will remain during the afternoon hours.

There will be a ridge of surface high pressure that will shift east through the local area late Tuesday through Wednesday and this will bring more light winds to the area.

This combined with clear skies and the seasonably cool airmass will lead to frost chances both Wednesday and Thursday morning.

“At this point, sub-freezing temperatures look to be limited to the typical coldest spots, with most location currently forecast to bottom out in the mid-30s both days,” according to NWS Hastings.

Later in the week models begin to diverge with track and coverage of precipitation as an upper-level low pressure system is expected to be coming up from the Four Corners region.

Areas south and along the Interstate 80 corridor could see an increasing chance for precipitation, along with a chance for some thunderstorms late in the week.
