GRAND ISLAND – Hall County Judge Arthur Wetzel set bond at $1 million Nov. 10 for Jesus Perez San Roman, 54, of Grand Island.
He allegedly stabbed and choked a 47-year-old woman in southeast Grand Island.
According to Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott, Perez San Roman had previously been in a relationship with the woman. That relationship ended, and the woman had a protection order against him.
Elliott said while the victim was on vacation, Perez San Roman took care of her cat. After she had returned to town, he had a key to her apartment and took the cat there.
Perez San Roman’s preliminary hearing will be at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 11.
He was charged Nov. 10 with felony first-degree attempted murder, 3 counts of using a deadly weapon to commit a felony, felony first degree domestic assault, felony terroristic threats, and two counts of misdemeanor violation of a protection order.
According to a Grand Island Police Department probable cause arrest statement:
Perez San Roman contacted the victim 20 to 25 minutes before the stabbing. He came to the apartment 20 to 25 minutes later. He allegedly wrapped his left arm around her and applied pressure with his left hand to her neck. He then stabbed her in the upper right chest.
Another man who was in a bedroom in the apartment appeared just before Perez San Roman was going to stab the woman again. The second man knocked the knife out of Perez San Roman’s hand, escorted him out of the apartment, and waited until police arrived.
The victim “believed she was going to die and was scared,” the probable cause statement said.
The second man when he was in a bedroom in the apartment heard Perez San Roman say, “I’m going to kill you.”
Another woman who was in the apartment saw Perez San Roman stabbing the victim and called for the second man to help.
The victim had a protection order against Perez San Roman that was dated July 16.
Hall County Deputy Public Defender Eric Kleveland is representing Perez San Roman. Hall County Deputy Attorney Matthew Boyle is the prosecutor.
