NEBRASKA — — During the month of October 2025, seventeen people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
- These 17 fatalities occurred in 15 fatal crashes.
- Five of the twelve vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, two were using a seatbelt, and five had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.
- Thirteen of the fatalities were in rural locations*.
- There were two fatalities on the interstate, eight on other highways, and seven on local roads.
- Two of the fatalities were pedestrians.
- Two of the fatalities were motorcyclists.
- One of the fatalities was riding an electric tricycle.
- There were 25 fatalities in October of 2024.
- Only 47 of the 143 vehicle occupants killed during 2025 were using seatbelts.
*The Federal Highway Administration definition for urban is an area with a population of 5,000 or more.
