WAHOO —Kearney Catholic’s 2025 season came to a close on Friday night at Wayne Reeves Field in Wahoo, as Bishop Neumann blanked the Stars, 34-0.
Kearney Catholic didn’t have an answer for Bishop Neumann in the first half, as Jack Van Slyke would break away with a 33 yard strike to start off the scoring. The Stars would open the game with a drive that stalled out on downs at the Cavalier 39 yard line, and after a five minute drive, Henry Woita would add onto the Bishop Neumann lead with a two-yard punch in, doubling the score save for a two-point conversion that failed.
Both teams would trade turnovers in the final two minutes, as Atreyu May would recover a Cavalier fumble as Neumann was knocking on the door of red zone, but the Stars were unable to take advantage of the turnover, punting the ball with a minute to go. Van Syke would punch in his second score of the night. Quin Schutt would intercept a Stars pass with ten seconds to go in the half, and the Cavaliers would kneel it out to go to the second half.
After Kearney Catholic punted the ball to start the second half, the Stars would stop Bishop Neumann’s momentum with another fumble, but Kobe Miller would break through on a punt block, setting up Beau Fujan to punch in a 21 yard touchdown run.
Kearney Catholic had a chance in the red zone on their next possession. After a big pass play from Jake Bosshammer to Zane Slack, the Stars were in the red zone, but the last gasp fourth down throw from Bosshammer to Atreyu May was incomplete to start the fourth quarter, with the pass breakup by Alex Barry. Neumann would take almost seven minutes off the clock, ending the possession with Van Slyke’s third touchdown of the day.
Bishop Neumann will go up against Grand Island Central Catholic in the C2 State Championship on November 25, as the Crusaders defeated Ord 23-13 Friday night. On the other side of town, Wahoo High qualified for the C1 Championship game, defeating Ashland-Greenwood 61-21.
