LEXINGTON — The Lexington Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fully involved house fire during the evening of Thursday, Nov. 13.
According to Bo Berry, LVFD Fire Chief, at 7:33 p.m., they were dispatched to 400 W. Vine St. for the report of the structure fire. Berry noted the department was holding their election of officers meeting at the time of the call.
In total, LVFD would respond to the scene with 23 firefighters, three fire engines, a rescue unit and one utility vehicle.
While on route to the scene, Berry said it was evident that the house was fully engulfed.
Berry noted there were some complications while fighting the fire due to the home’s metal roof and a six-foot metal eave that prevented setting up ladders to reach the top floor.
As a result, the fire took some time to contain and there was heat damage to a neighboring house.
Berry said the last fire engine left the scene at midnight, but a tanker with a few firefighters returned to the scene to ensure there were no rekindling from any lingering hot spots. The tanker returned to the fire hall at 2 a.m.
Berry said no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
LVFD was assisted on scene by Nebraska Public Power District, Black Hills Energy and the Lexington Police Department.
