The Nebraska Kearney football team has placed 10 on the 2025 All-MIAA squad.
The league’s 10 head coaches nominate and vote on the makeup of the poll; they cannot vote for their own players.
UNK’s nationally ranked defense is well presented by first-team corner Ife Current (Kennedale, Texas) and first-team end Xavier Morrow(Tuscaloosa, Ala.), second-team linebacker Parker Wise (Kearney H.S.), third-team corner Ja’Mareion Gipson (Houston) and honorable mention safety CJ Kuehl (Indianola, Ia.). Current was a 2023 h.m. corner for Missouri Southern with the other four earning their first All-MIAA honor.
The Loper offense is represented by second-team center Carter Klein(Pleasanton) and second-team receiver Jaden Jude (Athens, Ala.), honorable mention right guard Matthew Beyer (Mulvane, Kan.) and honorable mention tight end C.J. Horton (Ft. Scott, Kan.). Klein was a 2024 h.m. selection with the other three tabbed for the first time.
Finally on special teams, junior Marty Mormino (Omaha Westside) is a third team pick. He joins Hunter Kraus (2021 & 2022) and Kendall Raschein (2018) as Loper punters to have earned All-MIAA honors.
UNK’s deep defense allowed 22.0 points and 344 yards per game this fall while forcing 25 turnovers, having four scores and registering 28 sacks. Posting a 46% red zone rate, the Lopers held five foes under 22 points. That included NCAA playoff qualifiers Northwest Missouri and Chadron State. Wise (70 tackles; 10.5 TFL’s; 5.0 sacks), Kuehl (60 tackles; one INT; five PBU’s), Current (55 tackles, four INT’s; four PBU’s), Morrow (34 tackles; 10.5 TFL’s; 4.0 sacks), and Gipson (31 tackles; four INT’s: nine PBU’s) were part of the Blue Wall.
Next, Jude was one of the MIAA’s top receivers (43 catches, 553 yards, four TD’s) with Beyer, Horton and Klein blocking for a run game that produced 20 TD’s and 158 yards per game. The offense was efficient in the red zone (74%) and went over 30 points in four games. Finally, Mormino’s second year as a starter yielded a 40.6 average with 23% of his attempts landing inside the opponent red zone. Throwing a two-point conversion as the starting holder in the regular season finale, he also had 10 punts of at least 50 yards.
The Lopers begin winter workouts in mid-January with the spring ball slated for March (schedule TBA).
