KEARNEY CO. — The Kearney County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 7:32 a.m. near Highway 10 and Fort Kearney Road.

Deputies arrived to find a white Ford F-250 pickup and a tan GMC SUV with extensive damage. The GMC SUV was traveling northbound on Highway 10, and the Ford F-250 was traveling eastbound on the 50-A Link when the vehicles collided at the intersection. The driver of the GMC was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver (Cory A. Rady of Indiana) and passenger (Damian Wells of North Carolina) of the Ford pickup were using seat belt restraints and sustained non-life-threatening injuries; they were transported to a local medical facility for treatment. The driver of the GMC SUV was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Two independent witnesses were identified at the scene and provided statements to investigators.

The scene is being investigated by the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol, the Minden Volunteer Fire Department, Good Samaritan Hospital and EMS, and the Kearney County Attorney’s Office, with sincere thanks to the Good Samaritans who stopped to help.

The investigation is ongoing, and the name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
