GRAND ISLAND — Motion picture money in the form of $100 bills were used in a transaction at Woodhouse Toyota in Grand Island last week.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, between Tuesday, Dec. 2 and Thursday, Dec. 4, a customer presented two $100 bills which were marked as motion picture money as payment for services at Woodhouse Toyota.

The case is under investigation.

This incident follows others in Grand Island that have occurred throughout early 2024 in which fake $100 bills, including motion picture money, were circulating throughout the town.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, the Grand Island police responded to Pham’s Coffee and Boba regarding a counterfeit $100 at 2:24 p.m.

Later in the evening, police also responded to the Olive Garden on Allen Dr. in reference to a male suspect who tried to pay for his meal with a $100 that was believed to be counterfeit.

Between Thursday, Feb. 8 and Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, there was a report of a counterfeit $100 being passed at a Qdoba restaurant.

At 7:30 p.m., on Thursday officers responded to the Subway at 1723 W. 2nd St. in reference to a counterfeit $100 that had been passed by an unknown male.

At 7:30 a.m., on Friday, Advanced Auto Parts reported finding a counterfeit $100 in their ending batch. The store manager was reviewing the batch and noticed the $100 to be questionable. The store manager verified with the bank and was advised that it was counterfeit, police said.

At 1:43 p.m., on Friday, officers responded to 1811 W. 2nd St., First Interstate Bank, in reference to a call for service. It was reported that a counterfeit $100 bill had been passed at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on 2024 S. Locust St.

At 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, officers responded to the Dollar General at 2121 N. Broadwell in reference to a counterfeit $100 being used to purchase items from the store.

The bill was found to be a movie prop, no suspects have been identified in the matter, police said.

On April 18, 2024, as reported by Best Buy employees that around 4:07 p.m., an unknown male offered counterfeit currency in an attempt to purchase items from the store.

On July 7, 2024, officers made contact with Super Save employees who advised that an unknown male attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 to pay for groceries.

On Oct. 21, 2024, a counterfeit $100 was passed at the Dollar General location at 2121 N. Broadwell Ave.

On Nov. 8, 2024, when a counterfeit $100 was passed at a Ace Hardware location.

Ace Hardware reported that they located a counterfeit $100 bill while employees were counting cash drawers.

On Jan. 12, 2025, there was a counterfeit $100 being passed at a McDonalds location on Jan. 12 in an attempt to purchase food.

On April 24, 2025, a suspect passed a fake $100 bill at the Applebees location on North Diers Ave.

On May 13, 2025, Pinnacle Bank reported a counterfeit $100 was found in the Tommy’s Express Car Wash deposit from the day prior.

On May 24, 2025 a Dollar General location on N. Broadwell reported that a fraudulent $100 bill was used in an attempt to purchase merchandise.

On June 22, 2025 at the Walmart location at N. Diers Ave. a counterfeit $100 was discovered that the location after being used to purchase items.

On Aug. 2, 2025 a suspect was arrested for attempting to pass a fake $100 bill at the Walmart location on N. Diers Ave. They were later found in possession of the fake currency and arrested for first degree forgery.

On Aug. 18, 2025, a counterfeit $100 was passed at Smoker Friendly for the purchase of alcohol.
