Dan Osborne held a press conference in Lexington to discuss the Tyson closure announcement, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)
NEBRASKA — Nebraska leaders condemned Dan Osborn for using a Tuesday press conference in Lexington to capitalize politically on the devastating Tyson factory closure. Osborn’s press conference was heavy on grandstanding but offered no help or solutions to those impacted in Lexington.
“Tyson’s closure is devastating for Lexington. Senator Ricketts is working with Governor Pillen and the federal delegation to help those impacted,” Ricketts campaign spokesman Will Coup said. “He is also working with local business leaders to keep jobs in the community and find work for those displaced. Senator Ricketts will continue approaching this like a natural disaster, with work carried out locally, directed by the state, and supported by the federal government. Nebraskans will overcome this together.”
Congressman Adrian Smith, who represents Lexington, posted the following statement:
“Our Congressional delegation is working together with Governor Pillen to help the people of Lexington find new jobs and have the resources they need to get through this difficult time. Dan Osborn parachuting in for a press conference does nothing to help the Lexington community.”
State Senator Teresa Ibach, who represents Lexington in the Unicameral, posted the following statement:
“The closing of the Tyson plant is heartbreaking news for many families and the community of Lexington. We are working with Governor Pillen, Senator Ricketts and Senator Fischer, as well as Congressman Smith to mitigate the impact on our citizens and find a way forward for our community. Dan Osborn using this community’s hardship to score campaign points is opportunistic and disappointing.”
