YORK — On Dec. 5, 2025 at approximately 6:45 p.m. the York Police Department became aware of a theft in the 1700 blk of E. 15th St. Someone had taken a package from the front step of it’s intended destination.
In the investigation York Police Department discovered an individual was hired through a third party global transportation company that provides ride share services, courier services, food delivery, and freight transport.
A scammer used this platform and hired the driver to pickup the package from the 1700 blk of E. 15th St. and deliver it a local authorized shipping supply business. From this location, the package was shipped to a location in Florida.
YPD will continue to work with the transportation company, shipping supply company and the local courier in an effort to identify the scammer that coordinated this. A hold has been placed on the package and arrangements are being made to return the package to the owner.
Criminals are constantly trying to steal consumers’ personal information and/or items. They will utilize fake emails, websites, phone calls, text messages, or even convince other people to carry out their criminal activities. They use a variety of ways to try to trick people.
To help prevent delivered packages from being stolen, residents are encouraged to use delivery options requiring signatures or reroute high-value packages to an alternative address.
Additionally, install wide angle cameras with real time alerts. When notified, secure the package as soon as it is dropped off. If you aren’t going to be home when a package is delivered, ask a trusted neighbor if you can have it sent there instead. You can also ask the neighbor to grab a package that’s already been delivered and keep it at their home until you return to the house.
