GRAND ISLAND – A Grand Island childcare provider is accusing of negligently causing a child to be placed in a situation that endangers her life, which resulted in the death of the child on July 17.
Emily C. Wilsey, 28, 4095 Pennsylvania Ave., is charged with child abuse, a Class II felony. The child is identified by the initials A.V.
Wilsey appeared in Hall County Court Dec. 17 before Judge Alfred Corey. She was released on a personal recognizance bond and was ordered to go to the Hall County Corrections Department immediately to be fingerprinted.
Wilsey’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 20.
According to Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services records, Wilsey operated Emily’s Daycare at 4095 Pennsylvania Ave. The Department of Health and Human Services suspended her license by emergency order on July 18.
Wilsey was represented at the Dec. 17 court appearance by Grand Island attorney Robert Alexander. Deputy Hall County Attorney David Medlin appeared for the prosecution.
The original charge was filed against Wilsey on Dec. 4 and was child abuse resulting in the death of a child, a Class IB felony. An amended charge was filed on Dec. 12, charging Wilsey with child abuse resulting in death of a child, a Class IIA felony.
According to Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Wilsey was licensed to operate a “Family Child Care Home 1” daycare. The license was issued on Oct. 17, 2023. The daycare was licensed to serve up to 10 children from ages 6 weeks to 13 years. The daycare was open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.
