GRAND ISLAND – A Grand Island woman is facing four charges including felony child abuse after she repeatedly struck her 3-month-old son at a Grand Island motel.
Aracelli Hidalgo-Adrian, 23, of 1109 W. Anna St. was charged in Hall County Court with felony child abuse, two counts of resisting arrest, and one count of misdemeanor obstructing a police officer for the Dec. 20 incident.
After Hidalgo-Adrian was arrested, her son was examined at a Grand Island hospital and then transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, according to a police arrest affidavit.
Police officers responded to the Conoco Hotel at 2107 W. Second St., Room #147, at 7:27 p.m. Dec. 20.
Tanner Lewis reported to police that his 3-month-old child was struck by Hidalgo-Adrian, who is the child’s mother. He was in the bathroom when he heard a smacking sound. Then he heard the infant crying, followed by a muffled sound of the crying.
When Lewis came out of the bathroom, he noticed that his son had a laceration on his face. The infant also had red marks on his back.
After police arrived, Hidalgo-Adrian locked herself with the infant in the bathroom.
After she exited from the bathroom, she refused to let go of the child. Police observed that the child had a cut on the left cheek. Police had to restrain Hidalgo-Adrian before they could get the infant.
Hidalgo-Adrian was transported to an emergency room at a local hospital for medical clearance, the arrest affidavit said. She refused to walk out of the emergency room, and police officers had to carry her to a patrol vehicle.
Hospital personnel observed that the child’s left side of his face was swollen and red. The infant had a laceration on the left side of his face, and scratch marks all over his body.
Hidalgo-Adrian’s bond was set at $20,000. Her preliminary hearing will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 2. She is represented by Deputy Public Defender Jessica Fauss.
