GRAND ISLAND – Robert Runion, 65, of Aurora was killed in a two-vehicle accident that occurred shortly before 7:55 a.m. Dec. 24 near West Highway 30 and Husker Highway.

According to a news release from the Hall County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Josh Moline, Hall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the two-vehicle accident.

A 2024 GMC Sierra was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of West Highway 30 when it collided with a 2019 Ford Rochester Armored Vehicle traveling eastbound on West Highway 30 just south of Husker Highway.

The Sierra was being driven by Michael Danhauer, 65, of Aurora. Danhauer was transported to St. Francis Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The armored vehicle was driven by Lucas Maynard, 24, of Aurora. There were two passengers in the armored vehicle. A female was transported to St. Francis Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A male, Robert Runion, 65, of Aurora was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Seat belts were in use, and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor.

Next of kin have been notified.

The Hall County Attorney’s Office has ordered an autopsy.

A Hall County accident reconstructionist continues to work on this ongoing investigation. Potential criminal charges will be determined upon the completion of the investigation.

Hall County deputies were assisted by the Grand Island Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, Grand Island Rural Volunteer Fire Department, Grand Island Fire Department, the Hall County Roads Department, and the Hall County Attorney’s Office.
