GRAND ISLAND – Grand Island City Council President Ryan O’Neill, 44, filed Jan. 5 to run as Grand Island’s mayor.

Roger Steele is the current mayor. It is a nonpartisan position. His filing is listed on the Hall County Election Commissioner’s website.

O’Neill was just elected as president of the City Council at the Dec. 30 meeting.

According to the City of Grand Island website, O’Neill was elected to represent Ward 3 in December 2024.

In 2001, O’Neill graduated from Central Community College with an Associate of Applied Science degree. He also attended several technical courses at Bellevue University and holds several technical certifications from CompTIA and Microsoft.

O’Neill is the IT Manager at Amur Equipment Finance. He also serves on the Hall County Airport Authority Board.
