HASTINGS — The airports in Grand Island and Hastings recorded record high temperatures for Jan. 4 as 2026 gets off to a warmer than usual start.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the Grand Island Central Nebraska Airport recorded a high temperature of 62 degrees on Sunday, Jan. 4.

This set a new record for the date; the previous record was 61 degrees and had been set in 1909.

Additionally, the Hastings Airport was one degree higher at 63. The previous record was 61 degrees and had been set in 1956.

High temperatures in the 50s and 60s will continue until Wednesday when a cold front arrives on Thursday, but highs will only be knocked down into the 40s.
