GRAND ISLAND – The Tattered Book, a long-time used bookstore in downtown Grand Island, is closing July 1.
The announcement was posted Jan. 10 on the Tattered Book’s Facebook page.
“We are sad to say that after 20 years in our current location and a quarter century in the book-mongering trade the Graves family is stepping away from the used book business,” the announcement said.
The store is located at 110 W. Third St., and the Facebook page said that the business is the largest used bookstore in Central Nebraska.
“Due to increasing expenses and shifting responsibilities we are no longer confident we can provide the same quality service we have in the past,” the post said.
“In an effort to liquidate our inventory, we are only accepting books in trade on a limited basis (please call ahead),” the announcement said.
All store credit will be void as of June 1. All existing credit will be honored until that date.
“The Tattered Book has always been a passion project of our family to serve the community. We have been committed to staying open as long as it was not a burden. Time has tipped that balance. We look forward to continuing to serve our community over the next six months and hope to leave you with good memories,” the post said.
“If you are an entrepreneur, organization, or business and are interested in purchasing inventory, fixtures, or the business itself, please feel free to contact Frederic Graves to discuss options,” the post said.
The store’s phone number is (308) 395-8491.
