Barn Quilt Community Art Project Launches at Trails & Rails Museum, (Courtesy)
KEARNEY — The Trails & Rails Museum, in partnership with Rose Mapel of Artistic Innovations NE, is pleased to announce the Barn Quilt Community Art Project, a collaborative community art initiative celebrating creativity, heritage, and the spirit of Buffalo County as part of the American 250: Buffalo County Celebration of 2026.
Partially supported through the generosity of the Arthur Klinkacek Community Enrichment Fund of the Kearney Area Community Foundation, the project invites Buffalo County community members of all ages and skill levels to help create a large-scale barn quilt, comprised of 250 individual squares, to commemorate the nation’s Semiquincentennial.
Participants are encouraged to stop by the Trails & Rails Museum to pick up instructions and materials and to learn more about barn quilt design. Community members may also sign up for the next Barn Quilt Workshop on June 9, where hands-on guidance and creative support will be provided.
Completed quilt squares must be returned to the Trails & Rails Museum by June 29, 2026. The finished Community Barn Quilt will be officially unveiled during the Wagons West Celebration on August 2, 2026, serving as a colorful and lasting symbol of community pride during this historic anniversary year.
