KEARNEY — The Buffalo County Historical Society (BCHS) is now accepting applications for its 2026 scholarship program, supporting Buffalo County students pursuing higher education while promoting the study of local history.

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who reside in Buffalo County and plan to enroll full-time at either Central Community College or the University of Nebraska at Kearney following Spring 2026 commencement. Students from all academic majors are encouraged to apply, with preference given to those pursuing history or history-related fields.

Applicants are required to submit a brief resume and an original essay interpreting a topic of historical significance within Buffalo County. Submissions will be accepted from February 1 through April 1, 2026, with all materials due by midnight on April 1, 2026.

Scholarship recipients will be announced at the BCHS Annual Meeting in April 2026. Funds will be applied after the completion of the recipient’s first semester and will be sent directly to the student’s institution.

All application materials must be submitted via email to atrembley@bchs.us. Full guidelines and requirements are available through the Buffalo County Historical Society and the Trails & Rails Museum.
