HASTINGS — A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for all of central Nebraska on Tuesday due to critical fire weather conditions that will be in place.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the watch will be in effect from the afternoon through the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Record breaking high temperatures are expected through midweek and will play a part to the “very dangerous” fire weather conditions on Tuesday.
“Intense low pressure will develop over southern South Dakota Tuesday morning. The strong west winds will combine with very dry air, leading to probable critical fire weather conditions,” per NWS North Platte.
NWS Hastings notes that the watch is likely to be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning later today. Parts of the area, particularly west of Highway 281 will experience “extreme” fire weather conditions.
Winds are expected out of the southwest at 20 to 30 mph with some gusts up to 45 mph. Relative humidity will be as low as 10 to 25 percent.
“A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings,” per NWS Hastings.
