KEARNEY — The City of Kearney Public Works Department, in coordination with Nielsen Contracting, announces that Phase 1 of the A Avenue Roadway Reconstruction Project will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, weather permitting.
Phase 1 will begin north of 31st Street and extend approximately 700 feet to the north. Reconstruction work consists of removal of the existing concrete roadway pavement, relocation and rehabilitation of various private and public underground utilities, and construction of a new concrete roadway.
During this phase, A Avenue will be closed within the designated work area. Motorists who normally travel through this corridor will need to utilize alternate routes.
Customers and visitors to businesses along A Avenue, including CHI Heath Good Samaritan, should access the area via 2nd Avenue, 33rd Street, 31st Street, or approach A Avenue from the north. Phase 1 is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.
Motorists are advised to remain alert to construction activities and exercise caution around workers and equipment in the area.
