LEXINGTON — A California man was arrested after a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Dawson County uncovered 242 pounds of cocaine in the cab of a semi.

Arwinderjit Singh, 30, is charged with possession of cocaine – 140 grams or more, a Class 1B felony; no drug tax stamp, Class 4 felony; unlawful or fictitious display of plates, Class 3 misdemeanor and possess or consume open alcohol container, infraction.

Singh is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Dawson County Court on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m.

According to an affidavit submitted in court records, on Feb. 24 at 2:32 p.m. a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol noted a Freightliner semi pulling a refrigeration tralier. The trooper conducted a traffic stop for a commercial vehicle inspection near mile marker 254 in Dawson County.

The trooper identified the driver of the vehicle as Singh by his California driver’s license.

Another trooper was on scene and utilized a police service dog during the traffic stop and inspection. The K9 unit indicated the presence of materials that warranted a probable cause search of the vehicle.

Troopers would search the semi and found a large amount of narcotics, suspected to be cocaine. The semi would eventually be towed to the Lexington Nebraska Department of Transportation lot in Lexington for further inspection.

During the search in the NDOT yard, around 242 pounds of cocaine and a half full bottle of vodka were located in the cab of the semi.

Singh would be transported and booked into the Dawson County Jail around 7:30 p.m.
