GRAND ISLAND – A 35-year-old Grand Island man was arrested for a hate crime after he allegedly threatened a man from Africa with a gun.
Johnathon Dimmitt of Grand Island was arrested for felony terroristic threats/hate crime, misdemeanor first-degree criminal trespassing, and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
The victims are a 39-year-old male and a 38-year-old male.
The incident occurred at 9:45 p.m. March 2 in south central Grand Island.
According to Police Division Chief Dean Elliott, Dimmitt allegedly chased a man with what the man thought was a weapon. The victim fled into an apartment, and Dimmitt kicked open the door. The victim fled to a convenience store and called 911.
At the apartment, Dimmitt had then confronted other African males and said that they were illegals and should be deported, Elliott said.
