GRAND ISLAND – Debb Axtell Schultz, 73, has withdrawn from the race for Grand Island mayor.
The other two candidates are City Council President Ryan O’Neill, 44; and real estate agent Jimmy Reed, 36. Incumbent Roger Steele is not seeking re-election.
In another city government race, incumbent Mitch Nickerson, 68, has withdrawn from the race in Ward 4. Jodi Moore, 68, has filed for the position. Laura Gamoa Urrego, 28, filed March 2 for the position.
March 2 was the deadline to file for office.
Three additional people have filed for the Ward A position on the Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education. They are Christine Kier, 59; Amanda Goodwin, 42; and Jacob Wright, 27. Incumbent Amanda Wilson, 44, is seeking re-election. Board Member Josh Sikes resigned after deciding to leave Grand Island for a job in another community. Dr. Kent Mann, 73, was appointed by the Board of Education last month to serve in the remainder of Sikes’ position through the end of 2026.
