KEARNEY — The Kearney Public Schools Board of Education accepted the resignation of Jeff Ganz, Kearney High School principal, during their board meeting on Monday, March 9.

The resignation came after Kearney Public Schools announced a leadership transition at KHS and Horizon Middle School.

In a press release from Feb. 17, it was announced that Amber Lewis, the current principal at Horizon Middle School would be the next KHS principal.

Ganz would transition to an assistant principal role at Horizon while William “Bill” Schmidt would take over as principal at Horizon.

Ganz has served as the KHS principal for the past five years.

Jason Mundorf, superintendent of Kearney Public School, said in the release, “Jeff Ganz has a unique ability to connect with students and support them during critical points in their educational journey. Moving Jeff to Horizon Middle School allows us to leverage his strengths where they are most needed, working closely with students, supporting staff, and helping guide young learners through an important and formative stage of development.”

Ganz’s resignation was effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year.
