GRAND ISLAND – At approximately 2:26 p.m. March 13, Hall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of the rail crossing west of 60th Rd on Old Potash Highway reference an injury accident involving a motor vehicle and a train.
A preliminary investigation indicated that a cargo truck, a 2019 Freightliner, was traveling westbound on Old Potash Highway when it struck a train at the north/south rail crossing between 60th Rd and Alda Rd.
The Freightliner was driven by Dale Hurley, 56, of Grand Island. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Seat belts were not in use, and alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor.
Next of kin has been notified.
No autopsy will be required.
Hall County crash investigators responded to the scene and continue to investigate the crash.
Hall County deputies were assisted by the Grand Island Fire Department, Grand Island Rural Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Hall County Attorney’s Office.
