KEARNEY — The City of Kearney announces that the 2026 Yard Waste Collection season will begin on Tuesday, March 31. Yard waste collection will run through the first week of December, with no collection taking place during Thanksgiving week.

The monthly cost for yard waste collection service is $20.50. Residents currently enrolled in the program do not need to take any action to continue service for the upcoming season.

The City reminds residents that acceptable yard waste materials include grass clippings, leaves, flowers, garden materials, and small tree trimmings less than one inch in diameter. To ensure efficient collection, residents are asked to follow all guidelines when preparing yard
waste.

Important reminders for collection:
• Yard waste containers must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on collection day, with the handle facing the curb
• Plastic bags and household trash are not permitted in yard waste containers
• Yard waste should not be placed in regular trash containers

Residents with additional yard waste are encouraged to utilize the Kearney Area Solid Waste Agency Landfill, which accepts yard waste year-round at no cost.
