Kearney firefighters battle the structure fire on W. 34th St. during the afternoon of March 18, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)
KEARNEY — The cause of a fire that substantially damaged the garage of a home on West 34th St. in Kearney remains under investigation.
According to the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD), at 2:35 p.m. they were dispatched to 2003 W. 34th St. fore the report of a structure fire.
KVFD would respond with 28 firefighters, two fire engines, one ladder truck and two utility vehicles.
Dispatch advised that the structure was fully engulfed and all the occupants had evacuated safely. KVFD initiated a fire attack and primary search operations.
The fire was brought under control by 3:33 p.m., the attached garage suffered substantial fire damage, and the interior of the house sustained smoke damage.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal was called to assist, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Other agencies that assisted including the Kearney Police Department, CHI Health Good Samaritan EMS, Nebraska Public Power District and Northwestern Energy.
