GRAND ISLAND – The Grand Island Police Department has been awarded funding to support enhanced enforcement efforts as part of the statewide “Put the Phone Away or Pay” campaign aimed at reducing distracted driving.
The department will conduct selective overtime enforcement from April 9-13, focusing on identifying and citing drivers who are distracted behind the wheel.
The initiative is designed to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes related to distracted driving across Nebraska.
Through a mini-grant awarded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office, the Grand Island Police Department has received $6,016 in funding to cover overtime expenses associated with the enforcement effort. The Grand Island Police Department encourages all drivers to remain focused on the road, avoid distractions and help keep the community safe.
