GRAND ISLAND — The City of Grand Island will begin resurfacing work at the Pirnie Playground at Ryder Park on Monday, April 6 as part of ongoing efforts to maintain safe, high-quality recreational spaces for the community.
The project will begin with crews removing the existing top layer of playground surfacing, which is expected to take several days to complete. Once that process is finished, crews will install new surfacing designed to improve durability, safety and overall playability for children and families who use the park.
Due to the nature of the materials involved, installation of the new surfacing will be weather-dependent and lead to playground closures during the project. With rain chances in the forecast, crews will work around them the best they can and proceed with pouring and setting the new surface as weather allows to ensure proper curing and long-term performance.
Residents are encouraged to use caution in and around the project area and consider alternative playground options during this time. This work reflects the City’s commitment to maintaining its park system and addressing improvements when needed. Updates on project progress and any schedule adjustments will be provided as work continues.
