GRAND ISLAND — Two individuals were arrested in Grand Island for possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a playground on Thursday, April 2.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, a search warrant was served by officers at a residence on E. 16th St.

The GIPD stated that Ezequiel Barraza-Anguiano was contacted at the residence but allegedly refused to follow orders from the officers. Barraza-Anguiano resisted arrest when he was placed into custody.

Officers determined that Barraza-Anguiano and Angelina Ayala West were in possession of a distributable amount of THC products and marijuana. Drug money was also located.

A firearm was found, concealed in a child’s bedroom. A record search found that Barraza-Anguiano is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Barraza-Anguiano was arrested for tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute – within 1,000 feet of a playground, possession of drug money, obstruction, resisting arrest, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and child abuse.

West was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute – within 1,000 feet of a playground and child abuse.

All individuals that are arrested, cited or referred are innocent until proven guilty in a court.
