GOTHENBURG — The Rapid Relief Team is hosting a community and fire department appreciation meal on Thursday, April 16.

The Gothenburg community and Gothenburg Fire Department appreciation meal will be held at the Gothenburg Fire Department from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A free hot meal will be provided and all community members are welcomed.

“Rapid Relief Team (RRT) stands with our ranchers and farming community and are deeply grateful to the Gothenburg Fire Department and the many locals who risked everything to save as much as possible,” per RRT.

“Established by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC) in 2013, RRT offers quality catering assistance and tangible support to charities, government and emergency services confronting some of humankind’s greatest challenges. RRT adapts their benevolent support services to meet the need at hand. Whether it be fire, drought or even a global pandemic, RRT volunteers bring hope to people in their time of need,” per the RTT website.

The Gothenburg Fire Department was among the many area departments that fought the Cottonwood Fire that broke out on March 12 amid critical fire weather conditions.

The 129,253-acre Cottonwood Fire was declared 100 percent contained on Friday, March 27.
