HASTINGS — Another Red Flag Warning is in place across the entirety of south-central Nebraska until 6 p.m. this evening as critical fire weather conditions will be present.
The Red Flag Warning across the area begins at 10 a.m. and lasts through 6 p.m., the National Weather Service – Hastings states.
Winds will be out of the west at 15 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph. Additionally, relative humidity will drop as low as 13 percent in some places.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior,” NWS Hastings notes.
Any fires that ignite have the potential to spread rapidly and residents should use caution if engaging in any activities that may result in a fire starting.
The Grand Island Fire Department advised for residents to check trailer chains, watch for sparks from equipment, avoid dry grass in vehicles if possible and to drown any fires.
