HASTINGS — There will be near record temperatures today across central Nebraska, a cold front will knock temperatures down into the 30s mid-week. Temperatures will be back into the 70s by next weekend.

The National Weather Service – Hastings notes that low temperatures at Grand Island and Hastings will need to be monitored today for the potential for coming close to breaking record warm low temperatures.

Afternoon highs today could climb into the mid and upper 70s. Critical fire weather conditions will be possible across south central Nebraska and a Red Flag Warning has been issued.

Tuesday is when things get turned on their head. A cold front will sweep across the area during the morning hours.

Areas in the northern part of the NWS Hastings warning areas may have their high temperatures occurring in the early morning hours before the colder air pushes into the region.

There remains a small, 20-30 percent, chance of light snow. Little to no accumulation is expected as the warm ground will allow much of what does fall to melt rapidly.

Wednesday has trended slightly warmer, with highs expected to be in the upper 30s in the east and mid-40s in the west.

A ridge will move over the western United States and then over the central Plains on Thursday and will remain in place over the weekend.

“Near-critical fire weather conditions will be possible Thursday through the weekend as dry conditions continue and breezy conditions are expected,” NWS Hastings noted.
