GRAND ISLAND — Arson was determined to be the cause of the grass fire that occurred on the south side of Grand Island on Monday, March 4.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, on Monday a grass fire was reported in the area of 3628 S. Locust St.

A witness described a suspect vehicle in the area of where the fire started and left before it spread. An additional witness was able to provide video surveillance of the suspect vehicle, matching the description.

The fire was determined to have started from a road flare.

The fire was mainly contained by the Grand Island Fire Department with minimal property damage with the exception of trees, wooden fence posts and grass pastures.
