DAWSON CO. — Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District announced on Tuesday that they would be releasing additional water into the Platte River to address an unexpected gate closure.
Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, (CNPPID) announced via social media on Tuesday, March 26, a gate on the Supply Canal system unexpectedly closed.
Due to this, CNPPID is releasing 2,000 cubic feet of water per second to the Platte River at the Jeffrey Return, south of Brady.
CNPPID notes this is not a typical operation and will result in above normal flows in the Platte River for communities and landowners from Brady to Overton.
Crews are currently addressing the issue and plant to have the gate operating later in the day. Once that is complete, CNPPID will stop releasing water into the Platte River.
