HASTINGS — A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the whole of central Nebraska and will be in effect during the afternoon and evening of Thursday, April 11.

The watch will be issued due to northwest winds that will be blowing 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Relative humidity will also drop as low as 20 to 15 percent, per the National Weather Service – Hastings.

The effect will be any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and the NWS Hastings advises residents to use caution if engaging in any activities that my result in a fire starting.

“A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings,” NWS Hastings noted.
