GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man was arrested after failing to stop and render aid following a two-vehicle accident during the evening of Saturday, May 11.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 8:30 p.m. officers responded to a personal injury accident near 8th and Greenwich St., where a 1990 blue Jeep was flipped onto its side and a white Chevrolet Malibu was in a resident’s yard with damage to the driver’s side rear end.

Officers determined there were three occupants in the Jeep and three occupants in the Malibu.

Contact would be made with one of the occupants of the Jeep, who advised officers that the other two occupants left the scene, walking to their residence down the street.

The occupant was observed to have a large scratch and fresh blood on their right arm. They would later be transported to the hospital for an x-ray.

Officers would locate the other two occupants at their registered address. It was determined one of the occupants was a five-year-old juvenile who had a bump on the head and complained of their head hurting. The child would receive medical treatment.

The other occupant was identified as Teddy Swader, 58, who officers know to have a revoked driver’s license. A record check would confirm Swader has a revoked license with six prior convictions.

The Jeep is registered to one of Swader’s children.

Officers said Swader would deny driving the Jeep, but he was found to be only wearing one shoe and his other shoe was found in the driver’s side of the Jeep.

Swader also complained of the left side of his chest having pain from the seat belt, GIPD said, this location is consistent with the location of the driver’s seat belt.

GIPD would determine that Swader had left the scene of an injury accident and did not render aid or furnish information.

Swader was arrested for driving under revocation and failing to stop and render aid. He would be booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
