GRAND ISLAND — The first annual Banner Reveal Ceremony for the Grand Island Hometown Hero program will take place on Tuesday, May 21.

The program will allow the group to install and maintain Hometown Heroes banners on light polices along Capital Avenue between U.S. Highway 281 and North Locust Street.

The program promotes American patriotism and honors U.S. military veterans and active-duty service members of the Grand Island community.

The committee works to display banners of eligible U.S. military veterans and active-duty service members of the Grand Island community on light poles in the city of Grand Island.

The event will take place at 6 p.m. at Grand Island Senior High Schools, 2124 North Lafayette Ave., in the Little Theater. Attendees can use the north entrance of the school.

For each service member, their biography will be read and their family will be recognized.

The Grand Island City Council had voted to approve program, 9-0, on April 9.
