GRAND ISLAND — An 18-year-old Grand Island woman was killed after a side-by-side utility vehicle accident that took place near Grand Island during early morning of Sunday, Aug. 27.
At 1:23 a.m., deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 5419 Old Potash Highway, west of Grand Island in reference to an injury accident involving a utility vehicle.
The accident occurred on private property at the address. Prior to the accident, the driver, Mariela Perez, 19, of Grand Island, lost control of the vehicle. It tipped over and ejected all six occupants.
Several passengers were injured and transported to St. Francis Medical Center.
Passenger Jacqueline Torres, 18, of Grand Island was later pronounced deceased.
The Nebraska State Patrol, the Grand Island Police Department and Grand Island Fire Department assisted on scene. The accident remains under investigation.
