Nebraska assigned eleven Blackshirts, going to each starter for the defense to open the season.

WHITE – DEFENSE KNOWS MEANING OF BLACKSHIRTS:

Nebraska Football defensive coordinator was asked prior to Monday’s practice whether the Blackshirts being assigned to certain defenders still held value to the tradition…

Eleven Blackshirts were given to defenders prior to practice Monday, with each defensive starter earning the coveted practice jersey.

WHITE – BLACKSHIRTS WILL STAY AT ELEVEN:

Nebraska Defensive coordinator Tony White was asked during Monday’s media session whether the eleven Blackshirts handed out this week will stay at that number or if a change could occur…

Nebraska will have their defensive starters don the Blackshirts in practices leading into their season opener at Minnesota.

WHITE – DEFENSE HAS CONTINUED TO ELIMINATE PROBLEMS:

Tony White – first year defensive coordinator for Nebraska Football – spoke to the media prior to Monday’s practice and said the defense continues to improve by eliminating problems…

LOPER FOOTBALL’S DAVIS ON HARLON HILL WATCH LIST:

An unofficial watch list for the 2023 Harlon Hill trophy was shared over the NCAA Division II page on Monday morning. UNK Quarterback TJ Davis – the 2021 runner-up – was added the list of ten hopefuls for the upcoming season.

Davis, a two time MIAA player of year, was named All-American for the second time last season and has had two Harlon Hill trophy finalist campaigns. The Loper passer has nearly 4,800 yards through the air in his career to pair with over 3,600 yards rushing.

Davis is joined on the watchlist by fellow MIAA members Devon Garrison, a Pittsburg State tight end and Emporia State quarterback Braden Gleason.

The official watchlist is unveiled after Thanksgiving with 48 players on the list.

BLACKSHIRTS UNVEILED FOR STARTING ELEVEN DEFENDERS:

Each new Nebraska football coach tends to have a different way of dealing with the coveted Blackshirts, but Matt Rhule got straight to business ahead of the first game.

The Huskers unveiled the starting 11 Monday, with each donning the black football practice jersey.

Those include: defensive linemen Ty Robinson, Nash Hutmacher, and Blaise Gunnerson; linebackers Chief Borders, John Bullock, and Luke Reimer; and defensive backs Omar Brown, Isaac Gifford, Malcolm Hartzog, Quinton Newsome, and DeShon Singleton.
